Volleyball: Lady Eagles finish second in state

After finishing fourth in the conference and fighting their way to the championship game of the district tournament, the Lady Eagle volleyball team worked their way through the state tournament to take on the defending state champion Mansfield Lady Tigers.

Coming out fired up and playing at the top of their game, the Lady Eagles took the first set 26– 24 shocking the Lady Tigers who had not dropped a set in the state playoffs up to this point.

Mansfield came out in the second set and took advantage of some Paris miscues to tie the match at 1–1 with a 25–12 win.

In the third set, the Lady Eagles came back and gave the Lady Tigers a run for their money. However a couple miss hits at the end of the set gave the Lady Tigers the advantage and they took a 25–22 win to take a 2–1 lead.

The Lady Eagles could never get their offense going in the fourth set and Mansfield played their game to capture the 25–15 set win and a 3–1 match win leaving the Lady Eagles in second place for the second season in a row.

Paris opened state tournament play against Green Forest and captured a 3–1 match win with scores of 25–23, 25–19, 25–17, and 25–20.

In the quarterfinals the Lady Eagles took on Piggott and took a 3–2 victory in a very exciting match with scores of 25–20, 25–19, 25–23, 25–18, and 15–8.

Taking on a very tough Fountain Lake squad in the semi finals the Lady Eagles played their hearts out to take a 3–1 win with scores of 25–20, 25–19, 25–22, and 26–24.
