Trojans open basketball season Saturday

Saturday the Subiaco Academy Trojans will travel to Fort Smith to take on the Rebels for a noon tipoff to open the 2013-14 high school basketball season.

The Trojans will open their home season on Tuesday, Nov 19, as they host Rogers Heritage with the JV game tipping off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the varisty contest.

The Trojans return 14 players from a team that struggled much of the 2012-13 season. Those young Trojans did, however, turn it around in the last half of the season and won the district tournament, defeating Dardanelle, eventual state champion Pottsville and Maumelle in the finals.

According to Coach Tim Tencleve, the Trojans return a wealth of experience in both the senior class and junior class and some much improved sophomores.

Seniors Chris Reed, David Johnson, Kamron Hurst, Chris Post and Daniel Dunham have all played huge roles and are now ready to lead, Tencleve said. Juniors Cash Krueger, Kelly Hollis, Jon Vines, Evan Strobel and injured Christian Lowery played significant roles last year and are expected to do so again this year, with Krueger leading the team in both scoring and rebounding. Lowery broke his leg in a football game and is recovering. Two sophomores, Jacob Bergen and Alex Walker, are also expected to contribute after their year of improvement.

The Trojans hope to have a successful year as they take on a tough nonconference schedule before entering into conference play, Tencleve said.
