Sports banquet is held

In an effort to bring back some traditions to the presentation of sports awards to the athletes, the Paris High School sports teams are hosting a fall and spring sports banquet. Last week, those students taking part in the fall sports - football, volleyball, cross country, golf, tennis, dance, and cheer - were presented with awards as well as enjoying a potluck banquet.

First to present awards was Eagle golf coach Jason Binz who presented letters to first, second, and third year lettermen/women. Earning their first year letter were Madison Clark, Abby Crawford, and Ashlin Forbis; second year letter recipients were Jose Amparan and Gage Hampton; third year letter was presented to Justin Hibbs; and Hailey Mings was presented with a fourth year letter. In addition, Binz presented trophy awards to his male and female golfers of the year. Earning these awards were Justin Hibbs and Hailey Mings who also earned All-District honors in golf.

Coach Mike Foster next presented awards to members of the tennis team. Earning letters in tennis were the following: first year - Austin Davis, Kelton Braswell, Lacy Diaz, and Josiah Pierce; second year - Faith Orr and Kytan Tencleve; and third year - Hunter Allen, Sarah Koch, and Ryan Hatcher. The female and male tennis players of the year were presented to Hunter Allen, Sarah Koch, and Ryan Hatcher.

Mrs. Lyn Orr presented awards and letters to the cheerleaders. Earning letters were the following: second year - Allen Ellsworth, Kyra Austin, Emily Patterson, Faith Orr, and Ashley Krigbaum; third year - Kennedy Powell, Matti Huber, and Christa Huber; and fourth year - Delaney Wilks, Shenni Martines, and Whitney Schneider.

Presented the awards to the dance team was Ms Brittany Kinslow. Earning letters in dance were the following: first year - Megan Lowder, Tessie Luttrell, Kiersten Siegrist, and Allison Thoennes; second year - Kenzie Swedeen and Autumn Bell; and third year - Alma Arredondo and Quinn Morton.

Coach Layne Gray next presented awards and letters to members of the Cross Country team who once again won the conference championship. Earning their first year letter were Ryan Hatcher, Chase Wilson, Isiah Bates, and Kelton Braswell. Second year letters went to James Dement and fourth year letter went to Mark Dement. Mark Dement was also presented with the Male Athlete of the year for Cross Country.

Presenting awards and letters to the volleyball ladies was Coach Wes Davis. Those earning first year letters were Kenzie Swedeen, Ashley Hoen, Lycia Peevy, Courtney Bridges, Natalie Rice, Madison Clark, Annabeth Robertson, Golyin Yang, Kimberly Warren, Kayci Watkins, and Sarah Sparks. Second year letter recipients were Ashlin Forbis, Morgan Davis, Morgan Highfield, Daisy Mitchell, and Katelyn Kemp. Third year letter recipients were Ashley Fulmer, Delaney Wilks, Kyra Austin, Whitney Schneider, Rachel Hamilton, Hailey Mints, and Shenni Martines. Earning All-District honorable mention were Ashlin Forbis, Shenni Martines, and Rachel Hamilton; All-District were Makenna Hudson, Daisy Mitchell, Delaney Wilks, Morgan Highfield, and Kyra Austin; All-State All Tournament were Daisy Mitchell, Makenna Hudson, and Morgan Highfield; and All-State was Kyra Austin. Team awards were presented to five players. The Rookie of the Year award went to Makenna Hudson; Defensive Player of the Year went to Morgan Highfield; Offensive Player of the Year went to Daisy Mitchell; Server of the Year went to Delaney Wilks; and the Eagle Award went to Kyra Austin.

Finishing up the individual sport awards were Coach Bryan Hutson and the football coaching staff. Earning their first year letter were Glenn Baird, Ryan Brown, Noah Bradley, Sam Buckner, Duncan Sisson, Will Kremers, CJ Privett, Sam Parham, Clayton Hamilton, Jeffrey Canada, Zach Graham, Jonathan Atkinson, Charlie Conkin, and Cade Johnson. Second year lettermen were Ben Nix, Eric Sarmiento, Austin Ford, Tyler Canada, Chance Hardesty, Grant Hutson, Kaleb Owens, David Buchanan, Chris Cunningham, and Kyle Jackson. Three year lettermen were Devin Ellingburg, Trenton Moeller, Rondney Lo, Jordan Forbis, Payton Johnston-Jones, and Andy Trusty. Earning All-District Second Team were Charlie Conkin, Rondney Lo, Ben Nix, and Devin Ellingburg; All-Conference First Team were Eric Sarmiento, David Buchanan, Grant Hutson, Kaleb Owens, and Trenton Moeller; All-State was Andy Trusty. Team awards were presented to five players: Offensive Lineman of the year went to Andy Trusty; Offensive Back of the Year went to Kaleb Owens; Defensive Lineman of the Year went to Trenton Moeller; Defensive Back of the Year went to Grant Hutson; and the Eagle Award went to David Buchanan.

The final presentation of the evening was to those seniors who have earned three or four year letterman status in one or multiple sports. These athletes were presented with a blanket embroidered with their name and the sport or sports they have earned three or four year letterman status. Presented with these blankets were Rondney Lo, Andy Trusty, Trenton Moeller, Devin Ellingberg, Payton Johnston-Jones, Jordan Forbis, Mark Dement, Hailey Mings, Ryan Hatcher, Ja’Kyra Austin, Rachel Hamilton, Ashley Fulmer, Delaney Wilks*, Shenny Martines*, and Whitney Schneider*. The * indicates multiple sport letterman athletes.
