Rattlers whip Quitman, 42-18

When Magazine and Quitman played a year ago the Bulldogs got a win in a game that lasted about a quarter. Friday night Magazine returned the favor.

The Rattlers (1-1) were up 21-0 after one quarter and 42-0 at the half and coasted to a 42-16 win over the Bulldogs (0-2). In 2012 the game was shortened to a quarter due to weather with Quitman claiming a 6-0 decision.

Starting with a 53-yard Charly Moua run on which he fielded his own fumble on a hop, Magazine scored on their first four possessions and on six of their seven in the first half.

Jason Chambers recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff and Magazine needed just three plays to score with Chambers running 15 yards for the touchdown. Abraham Dority’s 2-point conversion made it 14-0.

With Quitman shunning the punt most of the night the Rattlers were often in good field position, as was the case when they started at the Bulldog on their next possession. After Moua hit Keith Dority for 33 yards, Caleb Shelton took it in from the 3 and Layton Robinson added the PAT for a 21-0 lead.

Moua started the second quarter with a 43-yard pass to Abraham Dority and Abraham Dority scored from the 5 a play later to make it 27-0.

Quitman threatened to make it a game by driving inside the Rattler 5 on their next possession, but Robinson caused a fumble that Charlie Emberson recovered to end the threat.

In addition to causing a fumble, Robinson had 1.5 tackles for loss and broke up a pass.

A 22-yard Moua run got the Rattlers out of the hole and after a punt and another failure on fourth down by Quitman the Rattlers had the ball at their 41.

Moua finished the night with 83 yards on the ground and 74 passing.

Billy Yang went 42 yards for a touchdown five plays later and Abraham Dority added another 2-point conversion to make it 35-0.

Yang scored his second touchdown 39 seconds before halftime, capping just a 40-yard drive and with Robinson’s PAT it was 42-0 at the intermission.

A Cheenew Yang run of 18 yards early in the third preceded a 31-yard field goal try by Robinson that was blocked and the score remained 42-0 .

Quitman got touchdown receptions from Roy Katger and Trevor Williams and a pair of 2-point conversions, the later score on the final play of the game, to make it 42-16.

The last in their league to do so, the Rattlers will open Conference 2A-4 play at Hackett Friday. The Hornets (0-2, 0-1) lost to Hector Friday, 28-14.
