PHS graduate to play for Hendrix

Austin Sevier, a 2011 Paris High School graduate, has accepted a football scholarship to play for Hendrix College at Conway this fall.

Sevier played running back and corner back for the PHS Eagles. In his senior season, Sevier rushed 126 times for 800 yards and 15 touchdowns. His performance was rewarded with a spot on the All Conference first team and the KARV River Valley Dream Team. At Hendrix, Sevier said he will play corner back and return kicks.

This fall, Hendrix will field its first football team since the school discontinued the sport in 1961, Sevier said. Sevier will report for fall pre-season drills on Aug. 12. The school’s first football game of the season is set for Sept. 7.

Sevier, who is now living in Fort Smith, said he was surprised and happy about the scholarship offer. He has completed his Associate Degree in physical education and recreation at Carl Albert State College in Oklahoma and said he plans to play at least two years and mabye more at Hendrix.
