With just two of 22 starters returning, Paris had a lot more questions than answers heading in to this season. At least some were answered in the Tuesday, Aug. 27 scrimmage as the Eagles performed well against Clarksville.
“I didn’t really know what to think before we got out there, but I was very pleased with how well we played,” Paris coach Bryan Hutson said. “We still have a lot of things to work on on both sides of the ball, but we gained some confidence from that.”
Paris scored three touchdowns and held Clarksville to one touchdown in the timed portion of the scrimmage when first teams were going against each other.
David Buchanan emerged as the top quarterback during camp and had a strong showing by completing 7-of-10 passes for three touchdowns. Buchanan hit Kaleb Owens on a 70-yard score early and added a 20-yard touchdown score. Devin Ellingburg also caught a 20-yard score and Grant Hutson caught several good passes.
Paris opens the season against Johnson County Westside Friday.
After a strong finish to last season, the Pirates have a solid group of starters back and are ready to push to the top of the 3A-4 this year.
