Briar Howard, son of Wes and Lori Howard of Paris, participated in the Arkansas Special Olympics at Harding University in Searcy on Friday, May 24, winning a silver medal in an event.
In preparation for the event, Briar helped his mother design t-shirts with the “Team Briar” logo to help raise money for the event. The t-shirts were prepared by clients at the Forrester-Davis School in Clarksville where Briar participated in local events to qualify for the state competition.
At the state event, Briar entered two field events. His first was the tennis ball throw in which he received a silver medal for his age group. The medal was presented by one of the law enforcement officers who participated in the “torch run” ceremonies. Briar’s second event of the day was the 50 meter dash in which he won another silver medal in his age group.
This medal was presented by Sloan Roberts, Miss Arkansas.
Briar is the grandson of Larry and Wilma Parsons of Midway, Mary Howard of Paris and the late Herbert Howard
