Outscoring their closest opponent by 60 points, the junior high Lady Eagle track team captured the District title last week at Danville with 161 points.
With team members participating in 14 of the 16 events, the junior Lady Eagles began racking up points from the first event all the way through the final event of the evening.
In the long jump competition, Highfield took first while Garcia took second for 18 points.
Four team members took part in the triple jump competition with all four earning points: Highfield took second for 8 points; Crawford took third for 6 points; Jay took sixth place for 2 points; and Peevy took seventh place for 1 point.
In the discus competition the Lady Eagles picked up 12 points when Highfield took first for 10 points; and Richey took sixth for 2 points.
Two members placed in the high jump competition for another 14 points; Brown took second place for 8 points and Garcia took third place for 6 points.
The final field event was the shot put where the Lady Eagles picked up another 12 points; Highfield took first place for 10 points and Richey took sixth place for 2 points.
In the running events, the Lady Eagles picked up points in nine of the ten events. Beginning with the 100, Brown took second and Garcia took fourth for 12 points; in the 400, Highfield took fourth for 4 points; in the 100 Hurdles, Ocampo took first, Highfield took third, and Peevy took sixth for 18 points; in the mile run, Slaton took fifth for 3 points; in the 300 Hurdles, Ocampo took first for 10 points; in the 200, Brown took third and Garcia took fourth for 10 points.
The three relay teams did very well and picked up a total of 22 points for the team. The 400 relay team comprised of Brown, Crawford, Jay, and Garcia took first place for 10 points; the 3200 relay team comprised of Cates, Slaton, Jay, and Garcia took third place for 6 points; and the 1600 relay team comprised of Ocampo, Jay, Roberson, and Slaton took third place for 6 points.
