The Arkansas Activities Association released the playoff brackets Saturday morning after teams completed the regular season Friday night. The state finals, which will be played at Little Rock’s War Memorial Stadium, are schedule for Dec. 6-7 for Classes 7A, 6A and 5A and Dec. 13-14 for 4A, 3A and 2A.
In Class 3A, 3A-4 champion Charleston faces Camden Harmony Grove (5-5), the fifth seed from 3A-5. The Cardinals are coached by the legendary Jimmy “Red” Parker, who led Fordyce to a 38-game winning streak in the late 1950s and led Rison to the 1995 Class A state title among his many high school and college football coaching stops over a more than 60-year career.
The Tigers (10-0) are guaranteed just two rounds of home games before a potential third-round matchup in Searcy against defending 3A champion Harding Academy.
Lavaca (6-4), thanks to a third seed from the 3A-4, will get to host a playoff game with it takes on Osceola (5-5), the fourth seed from the 3A-2. Paris (6-3-1), the 3A-4 fifth seed, travels to 3A-6 champion Smackover (9-1).
Booneville (10-0) rolled through the 4A-4 without a blemish and will host Clinton (4-6), the fifth seed from the 4A-2, in Friday’s 4A first-round game. Mena (5-5), the fifth seed from the 4A-4, plays at Hamburg (8-2) this week and the winner could travel to Booneville (if the Bearcats win) for the second round.
The Bearcats’ could potentially host the first three rounds, but would go to either 4A-3 champion Gosnell or 4A-8 champion Dollarway in the semifinals.
In Class 2A, Magazine (8-2), the 2A-4 runner-up, will host Brinkley (3-7), the fifth seed from the 2A-6, while third-seeded Mountainburg (6-4) will host Rison (5-3), the third seed from the 2A-8. Fourth-seeded Hackett (5-5) travels to Bearden (7-2), the second seed from the 2A-8, and Union Christian (5-4), the fifth seed from the 2A-4 goes to Magnet Cove (7-2-1), the 2A-5 champion.
