Lady Eagles suffer from cold bats

By Vicki A Schneider

Scoring six runs in the top of the third inning, the Lady Eagle softball team took a 6–4 lead but only for a short time as the Lady Tigers of Mansfield came back in the bottom of the third to regain the lead by putting three runs on the board for a 6–7 lead.

Halli Tencleve, who had a triple and a double in the top of the third inning, led off the fourth inning with a single and then came around to score on Haley Owen’s double. Kailee Johnson, who had reached base after being hit by a pitch, advanced to third on Owen’s double and then stole home to give the Lady Eagles an 8–7 lead after three and a half innings.

Things were looking good for the Lady Eagles until the bottom of the fifth inning when the wheels fell off the wagon and the Lady Tigers plated seven runners to take the lead for good.

Two errors on the Lady Eagles, several stolen based by the Lady Tigers, and two triples by the Lady Tigers enabled seven Lady Tigers to cross the plate and the Lady Eagles could not overcome the deficit falling 14–8 to the Mansfield squad.

Paris had runners on base in the sixth and seventh innings but could not get those runners across the plate thus unable to close the gap between themselves and the Lady Tigers.
