Lady Eagles strike first, end with victory

Playing in their final game of the season, the Lady Eagles didn’t let the drive to Danville or the cooler weather deter them as they jumped out to an early lead on the Lady Little Johns and never looked back as they ended the season with a 20–4 victory.

Walks, passed balls, dropped third strikes, three singles, a double, and errors on the Lady Little Johns allowed the Lady Eagles to score seven runs in the top of the first inning, enough runs to win the game but not all that Paris would score.

Haley Owen hit a home run to right field to give Paris a 9–0 lead early in the second inning. The Lady Eagles went on to add two more runs in the inning thanks again to a walk, a double, and two singles. By the time the Lady Little Johns recorded the third out, the Lady Eagles were sitting on an 11–0 lead.

The Lady Eagles got a bit complacent in the bottom of the second inning and the Lady Little Johns took advantage of opportunities to cut into Paris’ lead by putting four runs on the board. At the end of the bottom of the second, the score stood at 11–4.

Sisters Halli and Kytan Tencleve got two runs back for the Lady Eagles in the top of the fourth inning. Halli doubled with one out to get things started. Kytan then reached on a dropped third strike and Halli advanced to third. Kytan stole second base and one pitch later, Halli scored on a passed ball while Kytan moved up to third base. Morgan Highfield struck out swinging for the second out of the inning and Kytan took advantage of another passed ball to score Paris’ thirteenth run of the game.

The top of the fifth inning went a lot like the top of the first for the Lady Eagles. Danville had trouble controlling the ball and the Lady Eagles put together several hits to keep the runners circling the bases. Before Danville could get the third out, the Lady Eagles had plated seven runners to push their lead up to 20 – 4.

Kailee Johnson got two groundouts and struck out Danville’s third batter to end the game after five innings of play with the Lady Eagles picking up the 20–4 season ending victory.
