The Subiaco Academy Junior Trojans took on the Waldron Junior Bulldogs on Monday, Oct. 7 at Rebsamen Stadium on the Subiaco Academy campus and came away with a 20-0 win.
The Trojans’ defense scored first when defensive tackle Sampras Helton forced the Bulldog QB into an ill-advised lateral attempt that squirted straight up. The lateral was picked out of the air by defensive end Seth Kupers and returned 52 yards for the score. The two-point conversion was successful on a fullback dive by Kupers, giving the Trojans an 8-0 lead.
Taking the ball over on downs on the Waldron 48, the Trojans’ offense would finally see their first action early in the second period. It would only take two plays to find paydirt with the Trojans’ running backs getting the yards. Alex Snow rushed for eight yards on the first play, followed by Zach Franz scampering to the right for a 40-yard touchdown run. The two-point try was denied and the Trojans would settle for a 14-0 halftime lead.
Subiaco had the ball to start the second half and handed Waldron a heavy dose of fullback dives up the middle. Seth Kupers had his number called on six of the seven plays on the drive and finished it off with a four-yard rush for a TD.
Kupers finished the night with 52 yards rushing on seven carries. Franz had the single rush of 40 yards. Nick Charbonnet added 12 yards and Alex Snow contributed eight yards.
On defense, the Trojans’ leading tackler was Alex Snow with 6.5 tackles. Grayson Brown had five and a fumble recovery. Zach Franz had 4.5 tackles and Ryan King was credited with four tackles on the night. Hunter Fleming also had a fumble recovery.
