The Dardanelle Sand Lizards visited the Subiaco Trojans Junior High team for the second meeting of the season between the two teams Monday night.
Subiaco won the first battle 16-12. They won the second, too, coming away with a 24-12 win at Rebsamen Stadium.
It was a wet and slippery field Monday but the Junior Trojans kept their feet steady and scored on their first three possessions in dramatic fashion.
Leading the charge was Zach Franz breaking away for a 59-yard TD run on his only carry for the evening. Nick Charbonnet followed with a 20-yard TD rush around the right end. On Subiaco’s third series, quarterback Ryan King found tight end Hunter Shaw open for a quick pass over the middle and Shaw raced 35 yards to the end zone.
Alex Snow, Charbonnet and Luke Hertlein each converted the two-point tries for a 24-0 lead.
The Trojans rushed for 174 yards in the contest. Franz had 59, Hertlein had 37, Charbonnet had 36, Snow had 23 and Seth Kupers added 19.
The defense allowed only seven yards during the first three series while the offense built the lead. Steven Schluterman had an interception and Sampras Helton blocked a punt to help the defensive effort. Charbonnet lead all tacklers on the night with 5.5. Snow followed with 4.5. Franz had 3.5 while King and Aaron Brooks chipped in 2.5 tackles each.
