Junior Trojans almost pulled off the upset

The Subiaco Junior High Basketball Trojans same just short of pulling an upset in the basketball district tournament game against Pottsville on Wednesday night, Feb. 12. Pottsville won the game, 25-24.

Outmatched and reeling from a 28-point loss less than two weeks ago against the Apaches, the young Trojans would hold their own in this matchup.

Yielding an average of 38 points to its opponents during the regular season, Subiaco’s defense stiffened and allowed only 25 points against Pottsville. That’s the least amount of points allowed all season by the Trojans. Turnovers were held in check and the young Trojans shot 100 percent from the three-point arc, going four for four. They also took advantage at the free-throw line hitting four of six.

In all, six Trojans scored. Zach Franz, Logan Marlow and Ryan King scored six points each. Tyler Komp, Sampras Helton and Trey Wright also contributed in the scoring column.

The Junior Trojans season comes to an end with a record of 2-14.
