Eagles get 70-69 win in OT

Matthew Fitzjurls knocked down two 3-pointers in the final seconds to help the Paris Eagles pull off a 70-69 upset of Danville in overtime in the 3A-4 District Tournament Tuesday night at Lamar.

Fitzjurls scored 12 of his 23 points in the OT. Jordan Forbis scored 17 before fouling out late in regulation and David Buchanan had 15.

“I told them during that last timeout, if we were down by two to look for the 3-pointer,” Paris coach Mike Foster said. “Jordan was out of the game with fouls and I felt like we were running out of gas. We wanted to go for the win.”

Fitzjurls winning 3 came with five seconds left in the overtime.

Jay Trusty had 31 points for Danville.

Paris (10-15) clinched a spot in regionals after struggling through most of the regular season.

“We are young, and I have been seeing us get better all year,” Foster said. “We’ve lost a lot of close games and we have played some tough games against the best teams in this conference.
