Tied at 20 going into the fourth quarter, the Subiaco Academy Trojans gave up three touchdowns and were defeated by the Dardanelle Sand Lizards, 41-20 on Friday night, Oct. 25.
The Trojans were intercepted twice in the final quarter and both picks led to Dardanelle touchdowns.
The win brings Dardanelle’s 4A-4 Conference record to 3-2. The Sand Lizards are 6-2 overall. Subiaco’s conference record is 1-4. The Trojans are 3-5 overall.
Subiaco took a 20-14 lead going into halftime.
“We came out in the second half and didn’t have any energy,” Subiaco Coach Mike Berry said. “Again, we started shooting ourselves in the foot.”
Trojans Julius Lewis and Kelly Hollis had big nights on offense. Lewis carried the ball 26 times for 119 yards. Hollis carried the ball 18 times for 105 yards. Hollis threw the ball six times, completing four for 49 yards. Combined, Hollis and Lewis accounted for 273 of Subiaco’s 290 yards of total offense. Subiaco rushed for 241 yards in the game.
Dardanelle’s Timothy Tucker carried the ball 25 times and rushed for 247 yards, scoring four touchdowns. Dardanelle had only one yard passing. Dardanelle rushed for 381 yards in the game.
Defensively, Hollis had 13 tackles for Subiaco and two interceptions. Andrew Komp had nine tackles.
This week, the Trojans travel to Mena. Kick off is at 7 p.m. Friday.
“They are going to spread it out and throw it all over the place,” Berry said. “We’re going to have to be disciplined on defense. Defensively, they’ll try to stop our running game. We’ll have to rely on those big guys up front again.”
