County Line defeats Magazine

The Magazine Rattlers blew a 7-0 lead in the final two innings of a nonconference game at County Line last Wednesday but beat the Indians 14-8 with a seven-run eighth.

When Jonothan Travis singled home one run and Layton Robinson singled home two in the top of the sixth inning the Rattlers were up 7-0.

With Robinson having thrown a shutout for five innings head coach Randy Loyd went to JW Crossland. Five batters later — two base hits, a hit batter, a walk and an error — he called upon Jonathan Stover. Stover got two outs but was done in by another hit batter and two more errors.

Kalob Helms got a strike out to end the inning but County Line was back in it, down 7-6.

Helms led off the seventh with a single and with a walk to Mason Suttles and a bunt single by Michael Vasquez the Rattlers had the bases loaded, but it went for naught as Brent Loyd and Travis both popped out on the infield.

Helms walked the leadoff batter in the bottom of the seventh but retired the next two hitters, only to be done in by a hit batter and an error that tied the score at 7-7.

Crossland and Robinson hit back to back doubles to start the extra inning and Magazine had the lead back. The Rattlers weren’t finished. After Helms reached on an error and Cody Shelton walked, Suttles drove in a run with a walk.

Vasquez singled home two more, Loyd walked, Travis had a two-run single and Crossland drove in another with a fielder’s choice to give Magazine its second seven run lead.

Helms finished the game but had to pitch around a walk and two more errors that led to a run.
