2 Lady Eagles earn spots on All-Area basketball team

Two Paris Lady Eagles basketball players have been placed on the All-Area team has decided by the Times Record of Fort Smith.

Christa Huber made the first team and Morgan Highfield was an honorable mention selection. The team was announced Sunday and her are capsule highlights of those named to the team.

All-Area First Team

Girls

Alex Butcher, Muldrow

Class: Senior

Height: 5-10

Stats: Averaged 12 points and seven rebounds per game. Also made 80 percent of her free throws.

Awards: All-Conference

“Alex is a great all-around player. She had several 20-point games for us this season and had our highest free-throw percentage at 80 percent. Every time she steps on the floor, she gives 110 percent. She is a leader in every aspect of the game and has been a pleasure to coach,” Jana Armer, Muldrow coach

Olivia Hanson, Northside

Class: Senior

Height: 6-0

Stats: 15.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game, 58 3-pointers, 53 percent field-goal shooting

“Very, very talented. Kid that passes the ball extremely well. Shot 50 percent for the season. Outstanding shooting percentage for her career. Stepped up big in the state semifinals with her career high (27 points). Had a great career,” Rickey Smith, Northside coach.

Megan Hartness, Greenwood

Class: Junior

Height: 5-10

Stats: Averaged 14.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game.

Awards: Most Valuable Player of state championship game, All-State

“Megan’s a very talented player. The second half of conference and all through the state tournament, she really turned it on and played to the level that we knew and she knew she could play at. That’s what helped us get to where we did was her level of play down the stretch,” Clay Reeves, Greenwood coach

Haleigh Henson, Greenwood

Class: Senior

Height: 5-4

Stats: Averaged 11.6 points, 1.6 assists, and 1.6 steals per game and hit 36.9 percent from 3-point range

Awards: All-State, All-State Tournament

“Haleigh is a great guard. She was a team player and very unselfish. She really came on in the second half of conference and the state tournament. She got into a great rhythm and hit some big shots for us,” Clay Reeves, Greenwood coach

Christa Huber, Paris

Class: Senior

Height: 5-8.

Stats: Averaged 10.3 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists per game.

Awards: All-District, All-State, All-State Tournament

“Christa was a great senior leader for us on and off the floor. She is very competitive and very unselfish and did whatever it took to help the team,” Toby Tevebaugh, Paris coach.

Brianna Jackson, Northside

Class: Senior

Height: 5-6

Stats: Averaged 15.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.6 steals per game

“One of the very few kids I’ve had that can shoot the pull-up jumper. Basketball bloodline in the family, Ron Brewer (grandfather), Quianna Jackson (mother). Game-winners in the state semifinals and state championship as a junior and had some great games as a senior. A kid, I think, will only get better and better,” Rickey Smith, Northside coach.

Kelsi Johnson, Arkoma

Class: Junior

Height: 5-8

Stats: Averaged 12.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.

“She’s always been a team leader. She started off kind of in a slump at the very beginning of the season but … there was a lot of games that she scored 20-plus points, so she’s definitely a team leader. She shot well from the free-throw line and she was a big part of the reason why we made it to the state tournament,” Connie Ray, Arkoma coach

Drew Jones, Southside

Class: Senior

Height: 6-1

Stats: Averaged 16.2 points, 7.4 rebounds per game

Awards: All-Conference, All-State

”Drew meant a lot to the team as far as her leadership. She was our inside presence at all time and she had more experience than anybody on the floor, and she was our go-to player,” Sherry White, Southside coach

Jill Myers, Northside

Class: Senior

Height: 5-4

Stats: Averaged 7.2 points, 4.8 assists, 3.0 steals, 1.2 blocks per game

“Jill Myers was, just from the moment she stepped on campus, one of the best competitiors we’ve ever had. Unbelievable knack for the ball. Steals, blocked shots. Throughout her career hit a lot of big shots. Not a big figure as far as physical appearance, but you can’t measure her heart, her competitiveness. Great player,” Rickey Smith, Northside coach

Kaylie Pyles, Mansfield

Class: Senior

Height: 5-9

Stats: Averaged 15 points, 6 rebounds per game

Awards: All-District, All-State, All-State Tournament

“She is a great competitor in whatever sport she plays and is a winner. She took her game up a level in postseason play and averaged over 20 points a game in postseason. She’s quick and a difficult player to guard,” Keith Dake, Mansfield coach.

Kaitlan Standridge, Poteau

Class: Senior

Height: 5-10

Stats: Averaged 18.1 points and 10 rebounds per game 2.6 assists and steals per game.

Awards: All-Conference, MVP of the LeFlore County Tournament

“She makes us a much, much better team with her and she’ll certainly be missed, that’s for sure. She had some really big games and she’s irreplaceable. She was pretty steady scoring and drew everybody’s best defender and people game-planned against her and she still produced and made a huge difference in helping us go to where we’ve got to,” Scott Gregory, Poteau coach

Tara Webb, Mountainburg

Class: Senior

Height: 5-10

Stats: Averaged 14.7 points, 4.9 rebounds per game.

Awards: All-District, All-State, All-State Tournament

“She’s such a talented kid and a good teammate. It’s amazing to watch her player. For her size, she’s quick and fast,” Dan Garringer, Mountainburg coach.
