To the Editor:
On Saturday June 22, Alumni and Friends of the Boys and Girls Club of Paris participated in a four-person scramble golf tournament at the Little Creek Country Club in Ratcliff. There were 21 teams with 84 golfers and many others who came to visit and enjoy reminiscing about the club’s past sports and activities from their youth with Bill Walker, former club director; Bently Allen, former club director and current board member; and Cheri Garcez, current director of the Boys and Girls Club of Paris.
We appreciate the generosity of the sponsors: Greg Bennett, The Bennett House of Hot Springs; Jeff Jones, CenturyLink of Russellville; Perry Reams, PD Consulting; Don and Pam Goodson, Wells Fargo Advisors, LLC of Russellville; Hank Henderson, America’s Car Mart; Steve Brown, Best Home Furnishings; Fred Caddell, Nolan, Caddell & Reynolds of Fort Smith; Tommy Johns of Paris and an anonymous friend from Fayetteville. Thanks to Van Rogers of Bob Rogers Chevrolet for sponsoring a chance to win a car and other prizes for a hole-in-one.
We’d also like to thank Steve Brown for his help in coordinating the event; Jason Shook, Commercial/Agri Banker of Arvest Bank, for providing the hamburgers and cooking for this event. Thanks also to the course monitors/hole-in-one witnesses: Bently Allen, Paula Forbis, Tommy Johns, Steve Neumeier, John Paul Wells, Marvin Wiggins and Tom Johnson. We are truly grateful to Janet Glass for helping with the information desk, taking in entry fees and donations, and selling t-shirts and baseball caps; and to Grant Ehren, Don Goodson, William Bench and Jim Wright for helping with the prep and serving of lunch.
And a very special thank you to Mike Koehler and crew at Little Creek County Club for all their help with this event. Their hospitality and assistance for the use of the course was outstanding.
We would like to thank all of the participants and sponsors whose donations will be of great benefit to the youth in our community, and all those who helped to make this event a success and supporting the Boys and Girls Club of Paris.

To the Editor:
My water comes from Paris through the Gray Rock water line, so I am outside the city limits of Paris and yet I enjoy a water rate approximately 35 percent lower than the rate being charged by Clarksville.
Unlike the previous letter to the editor from Mr. Thurman, I really do enjoy my “cheap” water and with a secondary contract with Scranton in 2014, which will insure my rates do not increase, and the 1 percent sales tax increase, I could enjoy using all the water I need this summer to water my three acres, as well as have an opportunity for improvement in the water pressure.
Paris is my major shopping center and I am aware that even with the 1 percent sales tax increase, Paris’ total sales tax in 2014 will still be lower that the various shopping area around Paris, including Clarksville, Fort Smith, Russellville and Booneville.
