Sister Irma Twenter

Sister Irma Twenter, 101, died Friday, April 5, 2013 at St. Scholastica Monastery in Fort Smith.

The family of John Henry and Mary Magdalena Gramlich Twenter welcomed their daughter, Rosaline, on Apr, 3, 1912 in Clear Creek, Mo. She entered St. Scholastica Convent July 10, 1934 and received the name of Sister Irma on her investing day. She worked for many years in the culinary department, preparing meals and taking care of the house for the sisters who taught school. She was a seamstress and a self-taught artist.

Sister Irma was preceded in death by four sisters’ Frances Gerke, Emma Vollmer, Martha Vollmer, and Alice Marie Twenter and four brothers, Anton Twenter, Carl Twenter, Urban Twenter and William Twenter.

Vespers for the dead was Monday, April 8, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. in the Monastery Chapel. The funeral Mass was Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at 10:30 a. m. with Rev. Hugh Assenmacher as presider. Burial was in the Monastery cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to St. Scholastica Monastery P.O. Box 3489 Fort Smith, AR 72913.

She is survived by one brother, Alfred, her nieces and nephews, and her religious family.
