G.C. Smithson

G.C. Smithson, 76, who resided in Caulksville, passed away Monday, May 20, 2013 at his home. He was born July 25, 1936 in Lavaca to Carl Dean Smithson and Hattie (Boyd) Smithson.

He was preceded in death by his father and one son, Baby Grady Clifton Smithson.

He was a milk deliverer for several years for Beckman Dairy in Fort Smith. Along with his son Tim, he was a truck driver for Smithson Trucking Company in Caulksville. He was a former club member of the County Line Mule Rider’s, was music director for 23 years, an ordained deacon, and member at First Baptist Church in Ratcliff.

Funeral service was at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 23, at First Baptist Church in Ratcliff. Burial was at Hickory Ridge Cemetery, located northeast of Lavaca, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home in Charleston.

Officiating the service was Rev. Jarrell Woodhull and Rev. Shane Cooper.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Sosebee) Smithson; two sons, Tim Smithson of Caulksville, and Mark Smithson of Lavaca; his mother, Hattie Smithson of Lavaca; two sisters, Velma Whitley and Linda Whitley, both of Lavaca; five brothers, Buddy Smithson, Ronald Smithson, Kenneth Smithson, and Roger Smithson, all of Lavaca, and Richard Smithson of Van Buren; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way.

Pallbearers were Jackie Woods, Bob Parks, Rowland Rhodes, Tim Smithson, Mark Smithson, Josh Smithson, and Eric Smithson.

Honorary pallbearers were his brothers.
