Bertha May

Bertha Jane (Miller) May, born south of Prairie View, on September 11, 1919 to Charles Vinson Miller of Prairie View and Ader Elena Whitecotton of Yell County. Bertha passed away October 14, 2013 in Visalia, Calif. leaving a life time of family and friends.

Raised in Texas and Oklahoma, Bertha moved to southern California to work in an aircraft factory during World War II. She married James Washington May in Santa Barbara, Calif. on July 4, 1943, raised and cared for her family there. She was active in civic functions while living in Baldwin Park, Calif., and later retired with her husband to El Toro, Calif.

She will be intered with her husband James Washington May at Rose Hills Cemetery in Whittier, Calif.

She is survived by her children: son, Charles Richard May of Littleton, Colo., son, James Washington May, Jr. of Visalia, Calif., and daughter, Janey Yvonne Powers of Denver, Colo., sisters: Mary Lucille Riley of North Richland Hills, Tex., Marie Reed of Montrose, Colo., and Charlene Speer of Durango, Colo.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
