Volunteers will clean up Paris Saturday

The third annual Keep Paris Beautiful clean up effort will take place on Saturday.

According to Tonya Varnell, who is organizing the effort, more than 150 volunteers have signed up. If you would like to volunteer, or make a cash donation, contact Varnell by calling 963-3243.

The event begins at 7:45 a.m. when volunteers are asked to gather at the Wood Street Park to sign-in. Donuts will be available. On site work begins at 8:15 a.m. and will end at 12:15 p.m. when volunteers will meet back at the park for lunch, provided by First National Bank of Paris, and the awarding of door prizes.

This year’s projects include:

• Cleaning up Highways 22 and 109;

• Cleaning up, adding mulch and painting at the Coal Miners Museum and Memorial;

• Landscaping and cleaning at the Union School Cultural Center;

• Landscaping and cleaning at Paris Middle School;

• Painting a mural on the north side of the Sharum’s Shoes building, and;

• Constructing and planting a community garden.

The event is a partnership between area schools and volunteers from the Paris community.
