Search for escapee scaled back

Booneville Police Department Chief Al Brown said Monday a BPD officer was told last week that escaped murderer Timothy “Bo” Buffington was hiding out in the Sugar Grove area until things died down was turned over to Arkansas Department of Correction officials.

The tip was investigated but Buffington was not located.

Brown also said he was told last week the presence of state correctional department officials would be reduced after the holiday weekend as the search for Buffington entered the third week.

With Independence Day pending, Department of Corrections officials said last week they would be scaling back their search for escaped prison inmate Timothy Buffington at the end of last week, according to prison spokeswoman Shea Wilson. Officials also released a time progression photo of Buffington.

Buffington, 47, who was serving a 20-year sentence for first-degree murder of his ex-wife in Booneville, walked away from a prison housing unit June 21 after breaking into a secure storage room at the house and taking a loaded shotgun and camouflage clothing. He had trusty status at the time of the escape and should be considered armed and dangerous.

He has been charged with kidnapping, first-degree escape, theft of property and aggravated assault and when captured, will be held without bond.

Anyone with information about Buffington should call 911.
