Man’s body found near Sugar Grove

Hunters in Logan County on Monday found the body of a man, believed to be that of a Sugar Grove man reported missing in January.

Logan County Chief Deputy David Spicer said the body was found about 9 p.m. Monday near a creek in the Sugar Grove community of southern Logan County. Investigators at the scene told Spicer there were no obvious signs of trauma to the body, he said.

The body has been sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory in Little Rock to determine a cause of death and to make a positive identification. However, investigators believe it is that of 35-year-old Aaron Bradley DeWitt of Sugar Grove, Spicer said.

DeWitt was reported missing Jan. 10 after he was last seen leaving his home on foot. Search teams from Logan, Sebastian and Franklin counties began looking in the Sugar Grove area but were unable to locate DeWitt, according to a January Facebook post from the Logan County Sheriff’s Office.

“Currently, he’s the only one that we have that’s missing that would fit the description,” Spicer said.

Spicer said Logan County investigators are not treating the death a possible homicide.

“There was nothing at the scene that gave rise to any of the investigators that there was any foul play involved at the time (of the death),” Spicer said.

The investigation is pending results from the autopsy, Spicer said.
