The Logan County Fair in Paris will open a five-day run on Tuesday, Aug. 13. The fair takes place at the Logan County Fairgrounds located east of Paris on Highway 22, adjacent to the Paris-Subiaco Municipal Airport.
There are some new events this year and changes in the annual Fair Queen Pageant.
The new events include a wine making competition, the addition of action photos in black and white to the photography contest, a pin cushion event has been added as well as gourd painting.
The changes to the annual Fair Queen Pageant include a new location, a new date and the pageant will split into two segments this year, according to coordinator Amber Binz.
Instead of during fair week, the pageant will take place Saturday at the Paris Middle School auditorium. The Little Miss, Tiny Miss and Teeny Miss categories will be judged beginning at 10 a.m. The Queen, Princess and Sweetheart events will be judged beginning at 6 p.m. Contestants in the Little Miss, Tiny Miss and Teeny Miss categories can come from anywhere in the state. Previously, those categories were limited to Logan County residents only, Binz said. Queen, Princess and Sweetheart contestants still have to be Logan County residents.
“We moved it to the middle school auditorium because we’ve been getting so many girls that we couldn’t fit them all on the stage at the exhibition building,” Binz said.
“Our entries have been going well,” Binz said. “We have about 25 entered in the pageant.
The Queen category winner will get scholarship funds and be eligible to compete in the Arkansas State Fair Queen Pageant.
