Mount Magazine State Park will host a Mountain Memories program on May 18.
Those attending can share photographs and memories of the early days on Mount Magazine. You can bring in artifacts, postcards and stories of families who lived on, helped build, or visited the mountaintop, especially the old lodge, in an effort to help piece together the history of Mount Magazine State Park.
You can also examine items already in the park’s collection during an artifact road show.
Here’s the schedule of events
• 10 a.m. Artifact Roadshow: Examine historical artifacts from the park’s collection. Do you have an item, postcard, photograph, film, or memory of Mount Magazine from before 1980? Now would be a great time to share it with others. Meet in the visitor center.
• 2 p.m. Eras of Change: Mount Magazine has a short but interesting history, from settlement to the present day, which can be told through photographs. Explore those periods of transition during this presentation in the visitor center.
• 4 p.m. Wayside Walk: Heritage of the lodge site is revealed during this easy guided walk. See the grotto, Chimney Rock, the famous tree, and more. Meet on the lodge back patio. 1 hour
