AARP will be offering a series of driver safety classes in the area.

AARP will be offering the class in Paris on Tuesday, Sept. 10 from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. To register call 963-3475.

Each four-hour class is open to all licensed drivers of any age. Seating is limited to the first 25 persons to register.

In this four hour class, participants can expect to learn current rules of the road, defensive driving techniques and how to operate your vehicle more safely in today’s increasingly challenging environment.

You’ll learn adjustments to accommodate common age-related changes in vision, hearing and reaction time, how to minimize the effects of dangerous blind spots, proper following distance behind other automobiles, the safest way to change lanes and make turns at busy intersections, the importance of eliminating distractions such as eating, smoking and cell phone use.

The course will be presented by an AARP-certified instructor through a combination of instruction, video and work book participation. Those attending will receive a certificate and when presented to their insurance agent should receive an appropriate discount on their insurance premiums.

You also have the option of having completed defensive driving course entered on your driving record.

The fee for the course is $14. AARP members receive a $2 discount. There is no test.
