Mount Magazine State Park has several special events planned for this weekend including is annual Christmas Open House.
Here is a rundown of events:
Friday, Dec. 6, Wayside Walk 3 p.m.: Heritage of the lodge site is revealed during this easy, guided walk. See the grotto, Chimney Rock, the famous tree and more. Meet on the lodge back patio. Walk lasts 30 minutes.
Saturday, Dec. 7, Christmas Open House at 10 a.m.: Enjoy a festive atmosphere and light refreshments. Start your holiday shopping for unique items and support the park’s volunteer organization, the Mount Magazine Action Group (MtMAG). Learn how to become a park volunteer from members eager to share their stories and love of the park. Free and open to the public. 1 p.m. The Art of Old Time Toys: Before video games, smart phones, and even electricity, many families made their own toys. These handmade toys provided hours of fun and lasting memories for both the creator and recipient. Join us at Mount Magazine State Park to experience the joy of creating and sharing old time toys, just in time to make a few holiday gifts. Participants will make a no-sew rag doll, a Jacob’s ladder and learn about toys and games to share with the young people in their lives. Sunday, Dec. 8 Dutch Oven Demonstration at 1 p.m.: Have a tasty treat cooked before your eyes while discussing some of the uses and care of a cast iron Dutch oven, sharing recipes and chatting about the park. Bring a cup or bowl to sample afterwards. Meet in the lodge Hearth Room. Lasts about one hour.
Monday, Dec. 9 Exploring Mount Magazine at 10 a.m.: Enjoy a guided tour of the park while riding in comfort as we visit much of the park and take a peek beyond some closed gates on this hour long adventure. Space is limited. Tickets may be purchased at the lodge front desk. Admission is $1.
