Twenty colorful hot air balloons from six states will fly Friday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings, May 2 – 4, in new festival in Russellville
Balloons will launch from the Russellville Soccer Complex, 901 Lock and Dam Road. Friday and Saturday evenings the pilots offer tethered balloon rides at $10 per person with proceeds benefiting Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
A team of skydivers will offer tandem skydiving opportunities to the public. Zane’s Flying Circus performs an aerial display with powered parachute competitions. Passenger rides will be available.
Other activities include a Charity Dog Walk, Chainsaw Carving, and Wing Ding with chicken wing sampling and eating competition.
Georgette Jones, the only child of Tammy Wynette and George Jones, kicks off the event with a concert at The Center for the Arts, 2209 S. Knoxville Avenue on May 1, at 7:30 p.m. Emcee for the event will be Barry Williams, who played Greg Brady on the Brady Bunch television show. Tickets went on sale Saturday.
This event is produced by Balloon Festival Network, Inc. Rodney Williams, the founder of the company, organizes other balloon festivals in Missouri and Texas. With over 23 years flying balloons, he also operates a hot air balloon ride business in Branson, Missouri.
“I’m excited about bringing this new event to Russellville,” says Williams. “I am originally from near Petit Jean, and look forward to flying in Russellville in May.”
