Blessing the wine: Bob Cowie, owner of Cowie Winery and the Arkansas Historic Wine Museum in Carbon City, blesses the wine at the beginning of last Saturday’s 33rd Annual Cowie Winefest.

The 33rd annual Cowie Winefest took place Saturday, Sept. 14 on the grounds of Cowie Winery and the Arkansas Historic Wine Museum at Carbon City.

Bob Cowie first blessed the wine. After that, Kristi Culver Pfeiffer stomped some grapes as the crowd looked on. Pfeiffer has performed the traditional first stomping of grapes for 33 years.

Those attending the event were able to tour the winery, museum and the Cowie Family Chapel, stomp grapes, participate in a waiter competition and listen to live music, in addition to sampling the wine. They also got to see Cowie’s collection of church bells.

Cowie said next year the event will be combined with the annual Museum Day and the Amateur Wine Making competition.

“Hosting three events is getting to be too much for this old man,” Cowie said.
